Subject: Re: seeing what you're looking out from

Paul,

When I originally read this letter, my reaction was that I needed to have a better feeling for Paul's mental patterns before I could respond with something that might be helpful. So I asked you some questions [in a November 23 email message] that I hoped would give me a better feeling for how to go about undermining your scaffolding:

  • What did you see when you watched the process observer? When higher intuition became apparent?
  • What did you see when you did the Harding tube experiment?
  • What is your current self-definition?

Your silent response reinforces my belief that you're afraid to "duke it out" mentally ... afraid of what you'll see ... in love with a self-image that you're intuitively aware is a lie. And that "part of you" has the inner child snookered.

I've been watching the 2006 DVD in order to try to spot clips that can be used for our web page. Watched Mark’s [name has been changed] presentation and saw what might be an older version of Paul. He was steady and dynamic as a young guy, but he got scared.

As long as we believe ourselves to be Paul or Art, as long as we're in love with the "I am Paul" or "I am Art" belief, we can't afford to admit what we "see" (intuitively). What occurs when we ask ourselves a question? There's a momentary hiatus as we wait for an answer. During that gap we're aware of what Harding refers to as two-way looking: we're watching the screen where objects of consciousness appear—which you could say is looking outward. But that screen where objects of consciousness appear is Awareness. "What am I?" I'm What's Aware. And what's aware is Self-Aware. Art's not aware of Awareness. Paul's not aware of Awareness. Awareness is Self-Aware.

"Paul" is a system of patterns in the field of observation. I'm saying this to you now, not to Paul, but Heart to Heart: You are always "seeing what you're looking out from"—always have been, always will be.
