At some time in their lives many people may struggle with questions like: Who or what am I essentially? Does my existence have meaning? Does life have a purpose? or What is the Truth? Most of them never consider the possibility that a definitive answer to such questions can be found - a final answer that leaves no doubt. Yet that is the testimony of many throughout the ages - that it is possible to find answers, final answers, for oneself.

If that is true how are we to go about finding such answers? A major clue that has been left by those who have found is that the answers are within. Many have also recognized the value of working with others as a way to expedite progress. That is the purpose of these meetings. They serve as a place where people can come together to take an honest look at themselves and confront the basic issues of life.

The meeting mainly employs the Socratic method in order to help each participant engage in self inquiry. Each person is given a chance to talk about what is going on in their search and their life and for a little while they are given the spotlight. During this time instead of arguing with the other person or offering their own opinions, everyone else asks questions in order to help the other person retreat from untruth in themselves. This may help a person to see where their thinking is clouded by desires or fears, to see where they might be rationalizing or bring to light some unchallenged assumptions. The point of such questioning is not to embarrass the one being confronted or anything of that nature - confrontation is done in the spirit of friendship and is aimed at helping each person to get to know their mind.
